Your playful pup may get around your beautiful furry pair of shoes, twist and turn, and pull from their set of teeth. Dog chewing in pups is disturbing though, it’s a psychological phenomenon. When their teeth appear, they look for things to chew, around them. Yet, most dogs feel guilty after they’ve destroyed a shoe. And, you likely lose your favorite pair of shoes to your canine’s habit of chewing.
3 ways to stop shoe chewing
Your pup may chew your pair of shoes cause they feel tempted, lonely, and bored. If you address their emotional problems, your pair of shoes will be safe!
1. Remove the temptation
Shoe chewing is an addictive behavior in dogs. You must always put your shoes away and remove the temptation.  Your dog may try to apply their chewing to other things that smell like you. So, not only shoes you have to make sure that you put your clothes away, too.
You may give a Nylabone or a Kong to control the craving. Do not give your dog a rawhide chew. Rawhide chews are cowhide.
2. Remove the loneliness
Your dog may feel lonely or act out as if he is lonely. Your pup may chew the shoes cause he misses you. So, you may find something fun that you both can do together. If your pup has been alone, you may get a  canine companion or take her to doggy daycare.
3. Remove the boredom
Always keep your pup engaged and ensure that your dog has something to focus on (besides your shoes!), the problem will be solved. Your pup may need consistent training to overcome the habit. You may provide your pup with chew toys, and understand their needs. You may create a dog-friendly environment to curb the shoe-chewing habit.
Your furry friend may learn to enjoy appropriate chew items with patience and positive reinforcement.
